Other than that, really like the desktop remote to switch the controls. Good switch that works well. Fifth star not given since the cables are somewhat short.
Since the cables which come with the product are permanently fixed, you don't have the option of swapping them for better cables as you would with some other products at the same price. How satisfied you are with this product is going to depend on the quality of the video cable you are currently using. I've returned this to Amazon and purchased the Trendnet KVM for $10 more. On the plus side, the product works right out of the box and I like the switch, which allows me to hide the KVM and cables out of site and just run the thin cord for the switch to the front of the desk. I noticed a marked decrease in how "sharp" the picture was on my monitor (a relatively new flat panel) once I started using this. I believe the reason is that the video cables provided are substandard as compared to the "master" VGA cable I've been using.
One USB plug is all the wireless set has so that's all I plugged in. Just got this a couple hours ago. Great price for what it's helping me with. Then used one of the two supplied (for each computer) USB plugs instead of plugging both in and it works perfectly. Ordered it because I wanted to be able to switch over to Linux from Vista. Worked perfectly in both Ubuntu and Vista with a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard/Mouse Combo.
But that's minor. My only wish would be a keyboard-based toggle to switch between set-ups instead of (or in addition to) the actual toggle button provided. Now, my desktop is clean and open and I have no more swapping out hassle between work set-up and home set-up.
Plugged it in and it works exactly as it should. It was a cluttered desktop and annoyance to swich out keyboards on the tray every night and morning. I bought this product and received it yesterday.
This KVM switch was simple to put in (plug and play) and I just tucked the toggle button next to my tower.and done. Can't beat the price either. No software, no hassle.
My home office set-up originally had dual monitors for my job (plus keyboard and mouse) and a big monitor for my home computer (plus keyboard and mouse).
The separate switching button on its own cord is very nice and allows all the other cords to be hidden out of the way. The delay between switching seems to be quicker than other USB KVM switches I've used before. The only aspect I did not like was for the connectors to the computers, there were 2 USB for each PC - no real built-in usb hub on the switch. I only use it for the USB switching - no need for monitor switching atm. But the USB switching works great.
